A spectacular fireworks display lit up the night sky above Johannesburg's Soccer City stadium on Sunday following Spain's 1-0 extra-time win over the Netherlands in the World Cup final.
The burst of colour marked the end of the first World Cup to be staged on the African continent.
Moments later ecstatic Spanish fans poured out of the stadium, having just seen Andres Iniesta score with four minutes of extra time remaining to give La Roja its first World Cup triumph.
Spain, which also won the Euro 2008 championships, became the first team since West Germany in 1974 to jointly hold the European and world titles.
Devastated Dutch fans filed away from the stadium in silence after watching their country's third defeat in a World Cup final.
The two previous losses came in 1974 and 1978 when they were beaten by Germany and Argentina respectively.
