Eduard Khil’s well known song will be released for a third time, but with lyrics. A contest for the best lyrics for the new “Trololo” has been announced in many countries. It was organized by the Fund for Mass Media Development and Support, the Baltic Media Group, and Eduard Khil himself, who decided to restore justice. Forty-four years ago, Arkady Ostrovsky wrote a simple song about a cowboy Joe who goes to see his Mary. But the original lyrics weren’t allowed in the Soviet Union for ideological reasons. So the song was released as an instrumental, to which a vocal “abracadabra,” brilliantly performed by Eduard Khil, was added. Almost half a century later, “Trololo” will get new lyrics and will be called “Anthem of Planet Earth.”
“The song will be more engaging when the lyrics are made up from separate lines or whole couplets in different languages. Maybe, Chukchi will win and maybe it will include some lines in Chinese,” Eduard Khil told RIA Novosti.
According to the organizers, anyone can participate in the contest. Eduard Khil himself will select the winning lyrics.
