The Rubezh-2010 joint war games are held by four member-countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) – Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
At the beginning of the exercises Tajik armed forces secured a border and in cooperation with Emergencies Ministry services evacuated the residents of a local village. According to the drills’ scenario, the region was assaulted by an armed band.
To repel the attacks of “terrorists”, the troops used Grad multiple-launch rocket systems, military aircraft and armored vehicles. The clean-up operation was carried out by Kyrgyz troops transported by armored personnel carriers. The remaining “terrorists” were neutralized by Kazakh paratroopers. The exercises also featured a reinforced motorized infantry company from the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan.
Joint exercises with the CSTO member countries have been held every two years since 2004. The organization includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
