A huge ash cloud that erupted from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland has disrupted air service in most of Europe; airports have been closed in Britain, France, Poland and other countries, and hundreds of flights have been cancelled.
Gennady Stupnikov, a lead designer at the Omsk engine plant, described the threats to an aircraft that risks negotiating the ash cloud, in an interview with RAI Novosti. According to Stupnikov, ash is primarily a threat to aircraft engines.
