In Russia’s Central Experimental Factory, uniforms are being sewn for the top officers and generals taking part in the May 9th Victory Parade. Time is running out, and so the factory is working practically round the clock.
Natalia Timofeyeva, head of the sewing line, told RIA Novosti that this year’s uniforms will be much more comfortable and sensible, and will be made from the best Russian fabrics.
Shoulder straps, buttonholes, collars and cuffs of full dress uniforms will be embroidered with 5% gold bullion.
The color of the uniforms will also be different from the usual olive green, with Air Force pilots wearing blue, seamen white and black, and the army sea-green. Timofeyeva said these colors were approved for the 1945 Victory Parade and are the same used in the Russian army during the reign of Peter the Great 300 years ago.
All uniforms, from caps and gloves to the jackets and pants, will be tailor made for each participant, who will keep them after the parade. The only exception will be honor guard uniforms, which are state property.
