Poles take Smolensk soil to graves of air crash victims

Poles are taking soil from the site of the fiery plane crash near Smolensk that killed 97 people including Polish President Lech Kaczynski. Members of the Polish delegation that had arrived in Smolensk a few days earlier say they will take it to the victims’ graves.

Smolensk mourned the air crash victims on Sunday. Local catholic churches served commemoration masses, and mourners arrived all day. People carried flowers and lit candles to the crash site.
In Moscow, people signed a Book of Condolences at the Polish Embassy.
April 12 was declared a national day of mourning in Russia. Poland will mourn for seven days.
