The Novosibirsk Zoo is determined to mate its tigress with an African lion born in the zoo last spring. The plan was hatched when its experts found out how rare this lion species is. The Novosibirsk lion cub is a descendant of Cape lions, an extinct South African subspecies. The unique Novosibirsk tigress, offspring of an African lion and a Bengal tigress, was born six years ago. Genetically she is unable to give birth to a tiger, so she will mate with a young lion to preserve another rare species.
