MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Additional security measures were implemented on Saturday at and around the Amsterdam’s airport of Schiphol, a statement issued on the airport’s website revealed.
"Additional security measures are taken at and around Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The airport and its surrounding area remain accessible, but we advise passengers to take into account that there can be a longer travelling time to the airport," the statement said.
The move was linked to the national threat level, according to a statement issued by the municipality in which the airport lies.
Police officers are carrying out additional checks of passengers as well as cars arriving at the airport, the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper reported earlier in the day. The checks have reportedly caused large traffic jams near the airport.
