WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Neither the Republican nor Democratic party convention is having an effect on what US voters think about presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, a new poll revealed on Thursday.

"A new Rasmussen Reports telephone and online survey finds Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton with 43 percent support to Republican nominee Donald Trump’s 42 percent," the poll summary stated.

Last week the real estate mogul led former state secretary 43 to 42 percent, the poll noted.

This is the first time Clinton has edged ahead of Trump in a month, even though it is not statistically significant, the poll added.

However, since the Democratic National Convention has not ended, it will be another week before we can tell if Clinton gets a bounce in the polls, the poll summary pointed out.

The poll has a margin of error of three percentage points.
