MOSCOW, October 8 (RIA Novosti) - Award-winning Olympic tennis champions Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Elena Dementieva are returning to the court to compete at the upcoming Kremlin Cup, as reported by Russia’s Channel One broadcaster Tuesday.

“Yevgeny and I have decided to team up for a mixed double. This type of competition will be organized on purpose as we want to celebrate the jubilee 25th play of the tournament in a specific way,” Elena Dementieva declared during the Channel One talk show.

This year’s Kremlin Cup will be held in Moscow between October 11 and 19. It is the first international tennis tournament hosted by Russia. This year the tournament will welcome current tennis stars such as Ana Ivanovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Ernests Gulbis, Tommy Robredo, and Mikhail Youzhny.

Elena Dementieva has won 16 WTA tournaments, the Olympic Gold medal in 2008 in Beijing and the Silver Olympic medal in 2000 in Sydney, both in Singles. She retired in 2010.

Yevgeny Kafelnikov won the Men’s Singles Olympic Gold Medal in Sydney in 2000. He is the only Russian tennis player to be rated the ATP’s #1. His record also includes victories at the Australian Open and French Open, as well as at the prestigious Davis Cup with the Russian team. He also won two Grand Slam titles. After retiring in 2003, Kafelnikov has participated in masters tournaments.
