MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s second largest city of St. Petersburg was put on the list of 13 cities that will host the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship.

Other cities on the list are Munich, Baku, London, Rome, Copenhagen, Bucharest, Amsterdam, Dublin, Bilbao, Budapest, Brussels and Glasgow.

The 2020 European Football Championship will be the 16th tournament, which will take place in summer 2020 in 13 cities across Europe. The championship will be attended by 24 national teams.

In December 2012, the UEFA Executive Committee decided that instead of the traditional hosting of the European Championship by one or two countries, in 2020 the tournament will take place in several European countries. The changes are part of a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the first Euro Championship.

Originally 19 national football associations applied for standard packages: Azerbaijan (Baku), England (London), Belarus (Minsk), Belgium (Brussels), Bulgaria (Sofia), Macedonia (Skopje), Hungary (Budapest), Germany (Munich), Denmark (Copenhagen), Israel (Jerusalem), Ireland (Dublin), Spain (Bilbao), Italy (Rome), the Netherlands (Amsterdam), Russia (St. Petersburg), Romania (Bucharest), Wales (Cardiff), Sweden (Stockholm) and Scotland (Glasgow).

The semi-finals and the final will be held in London at the Wembley stadium.
