MOSCOW, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher has been released from a Swiss clinic and will continue further treatment at home, Germany's Bild tabloid reported Tuesday.

Schumacher suffered a severe head injury while skiing in the French resort of Meribel in December 2013. He underwent brain surgery at a Grenoble clinic in France and was then put in a medically induced coma.

In April, his health condition improved. Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm said at the time that the athlete began to stay conscious for longer periods of time, he could hear voices and react to touch.

Schumacher, 45, spent a total of 254 days at the Grenoble clinic and at a rehabilitation clinic in Lausanne in Switzerland.

Michael Schumacher is widely referred to as one of the greatest racing drivers of all times.

He won his first race back in 1992, being signed by Benetton-Ford at a time, however he is best known as a Ferrari team racing driver.

He moved to Ferrari in 1996, racing for the team from 1996 until 2006, and later on stayed with the team as an advisor.

He holds many Formula One driver records, including the largest number of fastest laps, pole positions and most races won in a single season – 13 races in 2004.

Schumacher won a total of 91 races, and got 155 podium finishes, more than any other Formula One driver.

The statement on the official Formula One website says that Schumacher is "statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen.”
