MOSCOW, August 26 (RIA Novosti) -American Footbal player Josh Shaw has possibly ended his football career after he selflessly jumped off a two story balcony to act save the life of his young nephew who was drowning in a nearby pool, reports ESPN.

"I would do it again for whatever kid it was, it did not have to be my nephew," Shaw said writes ESPN on their website.

Shaw, a final year student, was expected to play a full season with the University of Southern California Trojans, but now he is sidelined indefinitely with two high ankle sprains.

The incident occurred at a family gathering on Saturday after Shaw saw his young 7 year old nephew struggling to swim in a nearby pool. Shaw, knowing that his nephew did not know how to swim, immediately jumped off the balcony onto concrete two stories below where his ankles both nearly broke. Unable to walk, he crawled his way across and into the pool where he was able to save the life of his nephew.

His coached praised him, saying "That was a heroic act by Josh, putting his personal safety aside. But that's the kind of person he is," USC coach Steve Sarkisian said in an interview to ESPN. He went onto say that "It is unfortunate that he'll be sidelined for a while and we will miss his leadership and play, but I know he'll be working hard to get back on the field as soon as possible."

The Trojans will miss Shaw when they start their first game on Saturday against Fresno.
