MOSCOW, August 4 (RIA Novosti) – For the first time in four years Russia’s tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova won a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Citi Open tournament in Washington, the organization’s official website reports.
"It feels like it's been too long," she said. "When you've won Grand Slams, not winning tournaments is hard, but you just keep trying your best every time you play,” Kuznetsova is cited on the official website.
The two-time Grand Slam champion won the title with a prize fund of $250,000, beating Japan’s Kurumi Nara in the final game. This victory became the 14th Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) achievement for the 29-year-old Kuznetsova.
"It's nice to get to the finals, but four years I've been struggling a lot. Now I'm playing much better, serving much better, moving much better," Kuznetsova was cited by CBS.
The game lasted two hours 16 minutes and ended with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win in the Russian player’s favor, with Kuznetsova having three aces, two double faults and saved five out of 12 break points. Nara had four double faults and broke three out of eight of Kuznetsova’s serves.
"It's always very special to win a WTA title and I'm happy I could do it again here," the WTA website cited Kuznetsova as saying.
Russia’s player last won a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) title back in 2010 in San Diego.
