MOSCOW, April 6 (R-Sport) - Ukrainian KHL team said Sunday it has signed American defenseman Clay Wilson after he helped the team to the KHL Western Conference semifinals for the first time.

The Minnesota native, 31, has played for Donbass in both of its first two seasons in the KHL and was its top-scoring defenseman both years, posting 22 points in 54 regular season games in 2013-14, when he also led the team’s defense on ice time.

“HC Donbass management has reached an agreement on the extension of the contract with the team’s highest-scoring defenseman, Clay Wilson,” the Ukrainian club said in a website statement.

Donbass did not say how long the contract extension was for.

Wilson moved to the KHL with Donbass in 2012 after leaving the Calgary Flames, the most recent of four NHL teams he has played for.

The former college hockey star went undrafted in the NHL but has played a career 36 NHL games for Calgary, the Florida Panthers, the Atlanta Thrashers and the Columbus Blue Jackets since 2007.

Donbass lost 4-2 to Czech team Lev Prague in the Western Conference semifinal series.
