MOSCOW, April 2 (RIA Novosti) - A leading sports doctor has said Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, who has been in a medically-induced coma for three months, might soon be transported from a hospital in France to his home in Switzerland.

"A transfer can always be performed, ideally with a helicopter," the grandprix.com website said said, quoting Reinhard Weinstabl, a renowned sports doctor with a private facility in Vienna.

The doctor added that relocation would be possible even if Schumacher remained on an artificial ventilator.

Earlier media reports said that Schumacher's wife Corinna was planning on building a $17 million medical suite to enable her husband to leave the hospital. The fully-equipped facility was reported to have been installed at the couple's Lake Geneva house. Part of the family's fortune estimated at over $800 million was spent on the equipment.

Earlier this month, neurologists warned the chances for a full recovery looked very slim and that Schumacher might remain in a permanent vegetative state for the rest of his life.

Former F1 doctor Gary Hartstein has recently accused the medical team who looked after Schumacher before his arrival at the hospital of "serious lapses of judgment" in the crucial emergency stage of his treatment.

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Schumacher suffered a severe head injury after a terrible skiing accident at the French Alps resort of Meribel in December. About two months ago doctors announced they were working to wake up Schumacher from a coma but the process has so far proved unsuccessful. The champion is still unable to breathe on his own and remains artificially ventilated. He has reportedly lost 25 per cent of his body weight since the accident.
