MOSCOW, September 5 (R-Sport) – American guard Donnie McGrath said Thursday he has signed for Russian VTB United League basketball team Spartak St. Petersburg.
The 6-foot-4 point guard played for PAOK Thessaloniki and Zalgiris Kaunas last season, averaging 5.5 points in 11 games in the Euroleague and the VTB league.
“So I will be wearing Red and White colors on my uniform this season,” McGrath wrote on his Twitter feed. “And the colors I'm gonna be wearing are for Spartak St. Petersburg! Headed to Russia this yr.”
In the team, McGrath will replace his compatriot Zackary Wright, who left St. Petersburg for German team Brose Baskets last month.
After he went undrafted in the NBA in 2006, McGrath moved to Europe, starting a nomadic career with his one-season stay with Italian team Cantu. Spartak is his 12th European team.
In the upcoming season, Spartak will participate in the VTB league and the Eurocup, one tier below the Euroleague.

Some people are trying to make the reality in Russia at least a bit more humane. The amnesty should apply not only to persons involved in high-profile cases, but also to individuals who are not as well-known. It is better to set free at least some of the individuals who deserve to be released than no one at all.
