MOSCOW, September 4 (R-Sport) – WBC silver heavyweight champion Manuel Charr will hold his next title defense against Russian boxer Denis "Darth Vader" Bakhtov, the German said Wednesday, as he tries to build momentum for another shot at Vitaly Klitschko.
Charr, 28, retained his title in February against Yakup Saglam when the Turkish fighter withdrew in the second round due to a shoulder injury.
“My dear fans, I will soon get back in the ring,” Charr wrote on his Facebook page. “I will announce the exact place and date of the fight in the next few days. The Klitschko hunt is open.”
Charr is seeking revenge for his only defeat in his career, at the hands of WBC champion Klitschko last year. He lost on a technical knockout in the fourth round after a series of heavy punches from the Ukrainian left him bleeding heavily. Charr has since strongly contested the decision.
Charr has won 24 fights, 14 of them knockouts, while the 33-year-old Bakhtov holds a record of 36 wins, 24 of them knockouts, and eight losses.
