MOSCOW, August 24 (R-Sport) - UK football club Chelsea have upped their efforts to sign Samuel Eto'o from Anzhi Makhachkala, offering the Cameroonian star 6 million euros per year to lure him to Stamford Bridge, Sky Sports reported Saturday.
While that would represent a possibly unprecedented 14 million euro cut in wages for reportedly the world's best-paid player, it is thought to address one of the few remaining obstacles to his departure from the Dagestani side.
But the sides are yet to agree on the length of the 32-year-old's deal, with Eto'o thought to want a minimum two-year contract while the Blues are sticking to club policy of offering anyone over 30 no more than a 12-month contract.
Anzhi have already offloaded seven first-team players since slashing their budget dramatically at the start of the season to focus on developing local talent, with Eto'o and another English Premier League target Willian some of the last stars out of the door.

Both are secondary players in a region overshadowed by an increasingly assertive China, which has not hesitated to push against the boundaries of its neighbors.
