MOSCOW, July 11 (R-Sport) – Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova said Friday she has parted ways with her coach, seen by many as the architect of her resurgence in recent years.

Thomas Hogstedt joined Sharapova’s staff in 2010 with the Russian ranked 18th following surgery, and became her head coach a year later. Since then, she has won last year’s French Open and reached two more Grand Slam finals, as well as an Olympic final.

“After almost three years of working together, Thomas Hogstedt and I decided to part ways,” Sharapova said on her website.

“Due to personal issues, he was not able to travel in the near future and we both agreed it was the right time to move our separate ways. I am very thankful for all his work, and wish him much success in the future.”

Sharapova will announce Hogstedt’s replacement “in a few days” she said, adding she was “very excited.”

Sharapova is ranked second in the world behind Serena Williams following a disappointing second-round exit at Wimbledon last month.
