MOSCOW, June 25 (R-Sport) – CSKA Moscow, one of Russia’s premier basketball teams, will travel to North America in October to play the Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs as part of the Euroleague American Tour, the team said this week.
CSKA, which finished third at the Euroleague Final Four this season, play the Timberwolves in Minneapolis on October 7 before taking on the 2013 NBA finalist Spurs in San Antonio two days later.
The Timberwolves feature two former CSKA players, Alexey Shved and Andrei Kirilenko, while the Spurs boast Euroleague veterans Manu Ginobili and Tiago Splitter.
“These games will be a big challenge for our players and coaches. It’s great to have two most international teams as our opponents,” CSKA president Andrey Vatutin said Monday in an online statement.
CSKA played a pair of games against the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors in 2008 and a trio against the Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010. Its only victory came in Cleveland.
