MOSCOW, June 21 (R-Sport) - A former European championship biathlon competitor has been found stabbed to death in Ukraine and police are hunting a suspect, local media have reported.

Olena Demydenko, 28, had suffered multiple stab wounds when her body was discovered by a neighbor on the doorstep of a building in the historic town of Hlukhiv, regional police spokesman Elvira Biganova was quoted as saying by the UNIAN agency.

Demydenko competed in two European championships, coming sixth in the relay with Ukraine in 2002, and was a regular at world junior level before retiring to move into coaching.

Police said she had been living with a convicted murderer and that they are trying to find him. The man may have crossed the nearby border with Russia, police said.

Demydenko’s body was found Tuesday night, Biganova said. It was not immediately clear why the incident was not reported at the time.
