MOSCOW, May 24 (R-Sport) – Maria Sharapova will start the defense of her French Open title against world No. 42 Hsieh Su-Wei of Taiwan, with a possible semifinal against Victoria Azarenka, Friday's draw revealed.
Sharapova and Hsieh have encountered only once, in the third round at last year’s Wimbledon, when the Russian won in straight sets.
The world No. 2 has a possible semifinal against world No. 3 Azarenka, who will play against 36th-ranked Elena Vesnina in round one.
In the other half of the draw, world No. 1 Serena Williams, on a 24-match unbeaten run, will face Georgia’s world No. 83 Anna Tatishvili.
World No. 4 Anna Radwanska is a possible semifinal opponent for the American, whose only title at Roland Garros came 11 years ago.
The season's second Grand Slam tournament starts on Sunday.
(The headline and lead have been changed to correct Hsieh's nationality, which was incorrectly identified as Korean.)
