MOSCOW, April 22 (R-Sport) - The Ice Cube curling center will be packed to the rafters for the Sochi Olympics but its capacity will not be increased despite the high demand, the president of the sport's federation told R-Sport on Monday.

The 3,000-seater venue is one of several coast-side facilities at the Olympic Park, and despite the majority of tickets already sold for the curling competitions, Dmitry Svishchev says there is no sense in erecting extra seating.

"There is no point, because this sport might be very interesting, but it is also quite intimate," he told R-Sport.

The tight venue should make for a riveting atmosphere come next February, Svishchev added.

"Almost all the Olympic tickets are sold, many on the first days of sale. I don't doubt that the rest will be snapped up, and I don't think there will be any empty seats at the Olympics."

Sochi will mark the sixth appearance for curling at the Olympics. Ten teams will compete in both men's and women's competition: Russia as hosts and nine other qualifiers.

Plans to dismantle the Ice Cube arena and relocate it to a more needy region after the Games appear to have been shelved, leaving its post-Games future unclear.

It has hosted two major test events so far, with the world wheelchair and world junior curling championships, earning praise from many competitors.
