OMSK, Russia, March 25 (R-Sport) - Avangard Omsk president Alexander Sterlyagov and general manager Vladimir Kapulovsky have resigned following the team's Eastern Conference semifinal loss to Traktor Chelyabinsk earlier this month, team officials announced Monday.
In a statement published on Avangard's website, chairman Alexander Dybal called the team's second-place finish in the regular season "satisfactory" but criticized the playoff defeat against Traktor as "unacceptable."
Avangard fell four games to one in the best-of-seven series, which ended with a 4-0 shutout at home on March 16.
Kapulovsky, a defenseman for Avangard in the early 1990s, was hired as general manager in 2012.
