MOSCOW, January 13 (R-Sport) - France’s Martin Fourcade has continued his domination of the biathlon World Cup with victory in the men’s sprint in Ruhpolding, Germany.

Reigning champion Fourcade stretched his lead at the top of the men’s overall standings to 63 points over Norway’s Emil Hegle Svendsen after winning Saturday’s sprint, and also tops the sprint championship.

“It was almost a perfect biathlon race,” Fourcade said on the IBU website.

“When my coach told me that I had a 16 second lead, I knew that victory was mine."

Russia’s Evgeny Ustyugov was second, 16.4 seconds behind Fourcade, with fellow Russian Andrei Makoveev third. All of the top three shot clean.

“Congratulations to Martin - you led me through the loops today,” Ustyugov said. “You proved that you will be hard to beat this year.”

Fourcade heads the sprint standings by 18 points from Ustyugov, with Svendsen third.

On Friday, Germany’s Miriam Gossner won the women’s sprint, beating second-placed Darya Domracheva of Belarus, with Finland’s Kaisa Makarainen third.

France won the men’s relay Thursday, with Fourcade skiing the last leg, while Norway won Wednesday’s women’s relay.
