KHL: CSKA Edges Sibir on Penalty Shots

CSKA Moscow top scorer Alexander Radulov hit the winning penalty shot in a 3-2 win at Sibir Novosibirsk on Sunday.

MOSCOW, December 2 (R-Sport) – CSKA Moscow top scorer Alexander Radulov hit the winning penalty shot in a 3-2 win at Sibir Novosibirsk on Sunday.

CSKA remained fourth in the Western Conference after its fourth successive win, eight points behind leader Dynamo Moscow. Sibir is fifth in the East.

The Muscovites were 2-0 ahead by the end of the first period via goals by former New Jersey Devils wing Vladimir Zharkov and Niklas Persson.

Alexei Kopeykin converted a powerplay at 35:49 to pull one back and Kristian Kudroc sent the game to overtime 47 seconds from the final horn.

No goals were scored in overtime, and former Nashville Predators wing Radulov outplayed Canadian goaltender Jeff Glass on a penalty shot to seal the win for CSKA.    

Elsewhere, Metallurg Novokuznetsk put an end to its five-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over visiting Slovan Bratislava.

The hosts had to fight back from being one goal down twice before Dmitry Kagarlitsky scored the game-winner at 43:47, ten minutes after he pulled Metallurg level at 2-2.

Both teams retained their places in the table, with Slovan fifth in the West and Metallurg ninth in the East.

In Russia’s Far East, Amur Khabarovsk suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Lev Prague.

After the teams exchanged goals in the first period, Lev center Erik Christensen, who has represented five NHL franchises, put the visitors 3-1 ahead with two goals in each of the remaining periods.

Amur applied pressure in the final minutes but scored only once as Perttu Lindgren surprised Lev goaltender Tomas Popperle from the red line at 58:53.

Lev is seventh in the West and Amur is second from bottom in the East.
