Capello Hands Smolov Debut in U.S. Friendly

Fabio Capello has handed Anzhi striker Fyodor Smolov his first Russia cap for Wednesday's friendly against the United States.

KRASNODAR, Russia, November 14 (R-Sport) - Fabio Capello has handed Anzhi striker Fyodor Smolov his first Russia cap for Wednesday's friendly against the United States.

Smolov is the only debutant in the Capello's starting eleven, which features fringe player Vladimir Gabulov in goal and three forwards, as Alexander Kerzhakov and Alexander Kokorin also up front.

In defense, the experienced trio of Alexander Anyukov, Sergei Ignashevich and Vasily Berezutsky combine with left-back Andrei Yeshchenko.

Captain Igor Denisov is joined in midfield by his Zenit St. Petersburg teammate Roman Shirokov and left-side specialist Dmitry Kombarov.

Five substitutes could receive their first caps, including Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev.

Jurgen Klinsmann's U.S. side boasts recalled striker Jozy Altidore, in line to make his 52nd international appearance, with Everton's Tim Howard in goal.

Winger Joshua Gatt starts on his debut for U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who also picks defender Timmy Chander, who has yet to pick whether he will play competitive international football for the U.S. or Germany.

Chandler is joined in defense by captain Carlos Bocanegra, Geoff Cameron of Stoke City and Hoffenheim's Fabian Cameron.

In midfield, Gatt plays alongside Roma's Michael Bradley, Schalke's Jermaine Jones and Hoffenheim's Danny Williams.

Altidore and Herculez Gomez play up front.
