Montreal Canadiens alternate captain Andrei Markov is to miss at least three games after hurting himself in a collision with the boards, his KHL lockout team Vityaz Chekhov said Sunday.

The defenseman was unable to continue after he was hurt in the second period of Vityaz 4-3 penalty-shots defeat to Yugra Khanty-Mansiisk on Friday.

He has not traveled with the rest of the Vityaz team to three upcoming games on the road against Eastern Conference teams, a Vityaz spokesperson said, adding that it was not yet certain when Markov would be fit again.

“The Yugra players aren’t guilty of the injury, Andrei himself just skated into the boards in an unfortunate way,” the spokesperson added.

Markov misses games against Traktor Chelyabinsk on Monday, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg on Wednesday and Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Friday.

Markov has played 636 NHL games, all for the Canadiens, and is Vityaz’s only lockout signing.

Vityaz is 11th in the KHL's Western Conference.
