MOSCOW, October 24 (RIA Novosti)
CSKA Moscow will be without its new power forward Zoran Erceg for at least four months after the new signing tore an Achilles tendon in practice, CSKA said Wednesday.
Erceg, 27, joined the Russian team on a three-year deal in June and had been expected to develop into a key part of the attack for last year’s beaten Euroleague finalist.
In addition to the torn tendon, the Serbian also has calf muscle damage. He will fly to Israel for an operation Monday, CSKA said in a website statement.
“Without doubt, this is a serious loss,” CSKA president Andrei Vatutin said in the team statement.
“We’d attached a lot of hope to the signing of Erceg.”
Vatutin said he was considering signing a replacement but cautioned against making “quick decisions” and wanted to see whether CSKA’s Andrei Vorontsevich could fill the gap at power forward.
“I can’t say yet whether we’ll look for a replacement,” Vatutin said.
“We’re examining the market, we’ll see how Andrei Vorontsevich performs.”
Erceg had played two games for CSKA in the regional VTB United League, scoring 17 points for an 8.50 average and made nine points in his Euroleague debut for CSKA, a 76-71 win over Serbia’s Partizan Belgrade last week.

Erdogan will continue to help consolidate Islam’s influence in public life and use Islam as a political issue. It is hard to say what Turkey will do in the Muslim world, but Erdogan obviously does not need any more turmoil in neighboring countries.
