MOSCOW, October 21 (RIA Novosti)
Rasmus Elm's first goal for CSKA Moscow helped his team to a 2-0 win over 10-man Rubin Kazan in the Russian Premier League on Sunday, a result that maintains the pressure on leaders Anzhi Makhachkala.
The Swedish midfielder scored from the penalty spot on 69 minutes after Rubin's Spanish defender Ivan Marcano fouled Ahmed Musa in the area.
Marcano was booked for the challenge, but minutes later received a straight red card for a flying kick at CSKA midfielder Keisuke Honda.
Nigerian striker Musa doubled the lead on 82 minutes, rounding the goalkeeper and slotting home for his fifth goal in his last seven league games.
The win restores CSKA's second place in the table after Terek Grozny beat Amkar Perm 1-0 earlier Sunday to briefly go ahead.
Leonid Slutsky's men advance to 27 points, two short of leaders Anzhi, who eked out a 2-1 win over Spartak Moscow on Saturday.
"In the first half we weren't able to attack as fast as we had wanted," Slutsky said in televised comments. "But we said that we needed to be patient, the chances would come."
Rubin's sixth defeat of the season sees them remain in eighth on 18 points.
For Elm, it was a first goal since joining CSKA on a three-year deal from AZ Alkmaar in July. But it is his second goal in a week after the 24 year old hit the equalizer in a remarkable 4-4 World Cup qualifying draw with Germany on Tuesday.
Rubin appeared set out for a draw as Kurban Berdyev fielded a striker-less lineup with Sergei Davydov and Jose Rondon on the bench.
It handed much of the initiative to CSKA, but it took the Army side nearly 70 minutes to take full advantage.
Aleksandrs Cauna hit a stylish left-footed volley that was saved by Sergei Ryzhikov in the Rubin goal early in the first half.
Tosic struck a speculative long-ranger that swerved just over toward the end of it.
Honda played in Musa on the stroke of half time, but the Nigerian had his shot saved by Sergei Ryzhikov in the Rubin goal after diving at the striker's feet.
Ryzhikov was injured in the process and had to be substituted for understudy Giedrius Arlauskis at the break.
Rubin's Turkish winger Gokdeniz Karadeniz burst into the box aided by Alan Kasaev on 62 minutes but was falling back and couldn't get enough power behind the shot.
CSKA went ahead right after Berdyev threw on a striker in Rondon, sensing a lack of cutting edge up front.
The move backfired, with the three-time Russian Premier League champions scoring twice to clinch the three points.
Later, Dynamo Moscow play Mordovia Saransk and FC Rostov host Lokomotiv Moscow.
