Saturday's Russian Premier League match between Anzhi Makhachkala and Spartak Moscow is to start with a minute's silence in honor of the hundreds of people crushed to death at a Spartak match 30 years ago to the day.

The Luzhniki stadium disaster occurred toward the end of a UEFA Cup second-round match between Spartak and Dutch side HFC Haarlem on October 20, 1982.

Reports varied wildly as to the number of people killed in a crush as spectators began leaving what was then called the Lenin Stadium; official Soviet figures eventually put the toll at 66, but it is now thought up to 340 people died.

Spartak players are to take to the pitch in shirts carrying the printed slogan: "We remember 20.10.1982," said Oleg Semenov, the head of Spartak's official fan club.

Anzhi are to put up a memorial banner in the stands in honor of the victims.

Anzhi lead the league by two points over CSKA Moscow. Spartak lie in seventh, seven points short of Anzhi.
