Seventh seed Juan Monaco crashed out of the Shanghai Masters on Tuesday after losing to Fernando Verdasco in their second-round match.
Spain's Verdasco outplayed his Argentine opponent, making 15 winners against Monaco’s six to take a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Verdasco, ranked 23 in the world, will now face 10th seed Marin Cilic of Croatia in the third round.
Earlier, Cilic eliminated world No. 34 Martin Klizan of Slovakia 7-5, 6-1.
