KHL teams Atlant Moscow Region and Dynamo Minsk have made a swap deal for each other’s ex-NHL defensemen, Dynamo Minsk said Tuesday.
As a result, former Toronto Maple Leafs player Jonas Frogren will move to Minsk, while ex-Tampa Lightning man Janne Niskala heads in the opposite direction.
Niskala will make Dynamo Minsk a more attacking team, the Belarusian club’s sporting director Igor Matushkin said.
“Janne is a clear example of an attacking defenseman and we hope he will add creativity to our team’s game,” Matushkin said on the team website.
Both had made regular appearances for their teams so far this season.
Frogren played 41 games for the Maple Leafs in 2008-09, his sole NHL season, while Niskala made six appearances for Tampa Bay the same season.
