Second-half goals gave Anzhi Makhachkala a 2-0 away win at Dynamo Moscow on Sunday to stretch their lead at the top of the Russian Premier League to four points. The match that saw both teams reduced to 10 men.

Yuri Zhirkov opened the scoring in the 76th minute, rounding off a neat attacking move to sweep the ball into the far corner from 15 yards.

Samuel Eto'o scored the second three minutes from time as he poked home after a perfect through pass from Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez.

Anzhi played most of the match with 10 men after defender Joao Carlos was dismissed for a last-man foul on Dynamo striker Alexander Kokorin.

Dynamo defender Gordon Schildenfeld saw red on 52 minutes for handling the ball to prevent Eto'o running clear on goal.

"In the first half when Joao Carlos was sent off we had control in the game already, but we were one man down," said Anzhi coach Guus HIddink.

"I think Dynamo were a little bit anxious to play with the extra man, and they didn't attack very much but we controlled it, and after the red card for their central defender we dominated, and then we could wait for the goal."

Anzhi go to 26 points from 11 games, four ahead of Terek Grozny and five more than CSKA Moscow, who close the gap to two with a win against Spartak Moscow later Sunday.

Dynamo remain 13th on nine points after having a mini revival cut short. After losing their seven of their first eight games, the club had won their last two.

Dynamo had a good record against Anzhi going into the game, with eight wins and four draws in 15 encounters, and they started to turn the screw from the outset.

After three minutes, Alexander Kokorin tested Anzhi goalkeeper Vladimir Gabulov with a strike from 20 yards, but the former Dynamo man turned it away for a corner.

Six minutes later, Artur Yusupov created a goal-scoring opportunity for Kokorin, who found himself one on one with the keeper, but Joao Carlos brought down the forward just outside the area and was shown a straight red card.

On 14 minutes Kokorin almost broke the deadlock when he outplayed Christopher Samba and struck from 12 yards, but Gabulov saved with his feet.

In a rare chance for the visitors, Mbark Boussoufa went on a mazy run into the box on 18 minutes, beating a couple of defenders before his shot, which was clearly off-target, ended up in Anton Shunin’s arms.

At the other end, Gabulov strayed out of area to clear a long ball, but he miscued straight to former Anzhi winger Balazs Dzsudzsak, who wasted the opportunity by dawdling on the ball to allow Gabulov to race back and save.

Three minutes before the break, Kokorin appeared to be one-on-one with Gabulov again, but midfielder Jucilei got back to muscle him off the ball.

Some seven minutes after the break, Gordon Schildenfeld was sent off for a handball which blocked a dangerous Anzhi counterattack.

Anzhi apllied pressure on Shunin’s goal almost immediately, with Oleg Shatov shooting from long range and Boussoufa firing a dangerous free-kick, before goals from Eto’o and Zhirkov sealed the victory.
