Dynamo Kiev coach Oleg Blokhin is in stable condition after being hospitalized with high blood pressure, his doctor said Saturday.

The 59-year-old, who resigned as Ukraine coach last month after leading the side at Euro 2012, was taken ill late Friday after complaints of feeling poorly.

The chief doctor at his Kiev clinic Mikhail Radutsky said the excitement in Blokhin's professional life was to blame for the hypertension.

"We think that, unfortunately, the psycho-emotional surge that Oleg Vladimirovich has experienced in the last ten days has left its mark," Radutsky said.

Blokhin's condition is stable, and doctors hope "all will be well" with the former Soviet national team striker, but he needs to take time out of football and avoid stress, Radutsky said.

"We have deliberately removed the television from his ward and we're not allowing any visits. High emotions might not be the best thing for him right now."

Blokhin has presided over two Dynamo matches since stepping down as national team coach, a league victory and a 2-0 defeat of Dynamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

He had promised to remain acting Ukraine coach for the national team's World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Montenegro later this month.

Blokhin is revered in his homeland as one of the world's top forwards in the 1970s and 80s. He scored 42 goals in a record 112 appearances for the Soviet Union.
