Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin grabbed an assist for KHL team Metallurg Magnitogorsk in a 2-1 road defeat of Sibir Novosibirsk on Thursday.

It was the seventh assist in as many games for Malkin since his rejoined his old team on September 20, with his only goal recorded in a 6-1 thrashing of Lev Prague last week.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nikolai Kulemin benefited from Malkin’s good work to score his third goal for the team in six games.

Just prior to that, Pavel Zdunov found the net for Metallurg and Stenan Sannikov evened the score.

Metallurg is fourth in the Eastern Conference with four wins in five games, while Sibir is two places above with three defeats in four games.

Elsewhere, Traktor Chelyabinsk extended a winning streak to six games with a 6-0 thrashing of Metallurg Novokuznetsk.

Former Nashville Predators forward Andrei Kostitsyn scored twice and racked up an assist for the visitors, while Novokuznetsk's Nikita Vyglazov was not able to convert a penalty shot in the first period.

Michael Garnett posted his third shutout of the season for Traktor as he dealt with 39 shots.

Traktor is top of the table in the East , with Novokuznetsk eighth.
