Massimiliano Allegri's future as AC Milan coach hangs on the club's Champions League results against Zenit St. Petersburg, a source at the Italian giants told R-Sport on Wednesday.

The Italian media have reported that Allegri is on the brink of losing his job following a poor start to the season, with Milan winning two of their seven games and dropping to 11th in Serie A.

Milan face Zenit in St. Petersburg later Wednesday, and host Luciano Spalletti's side on December 4 in the final game of Group C for what could be a crucial clash.

"Allegri's contract runs through summer 2014, but the club's owner Silvio Berlusconi isn't happy with his work," the source said. "In the best-case scenario, Allegri will stay at Milan until next summer, but if Milan don't get out of the group stage the coach will leave his post before the end of the year."

The source said the two matches against Zenit will be "decisive, because these are the games that are likely to decide if Milan get to the knockout rounds."

Former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has been heavily linked with a move to the San Siro, while Berlusconi is also thought to be considering Spalletti himself for the role.
