Six foreigners have applied for the post of Russian national women's handball team coach to replace Evgeny Trefilov, who was fired after a poor showing at the London Olympics.

Russia, a four-time world champions Beijing silver medalist in 2008, was eliminated 24-23 by South Korea in the quarterfinal.

The 10-strong list comprises three Danes including Allan Lund, a former advisor of Britain's handball team, the ex-sporting director of Viborg HK Michael Hansen.

Other foreigners include Croatia’s Ivica Rimanic, who coached Austria, Iran and Slovenia, Serbia’s Risto Buha, ex-boss of the Yugoslavia national team, and Geerd Briskin of the Netherlands.

Acting coach Vitaly Krokhin has also applied for the position permanently.

A shortlist is expected to be compiled by the end of the week.
