Russia's billionaire-backed football club Anzhi Makhachkala have appointed former Estonia national team coach Jelle Goes as academy sporting director.

Goes, 42, was head coach at the Baltic minnows from 2004 to 2007, when he first moved to Russia to run CSKA Moscow's youth academy for two years.

He joins his compatriot Guus Hiddink at Anzhi after a further two years as youth coach at PSV Eindhoven.

Anzhi, owned by Dagestan-born entrepreneur Suleiman Kerimov, have made a number of marquee signings since he bought the club in January 2011 including Roberto Carlos, Samuel Eto'o, and most recently Lassana Diarra.

But the club has gone to pains to stress that blooding its own youngsters is just as big a priority, something it hopes to achieve with Goes and the academy.

Anzhi, currently third in the Russian Premier League, make their Europa League group stage debut on Thursday against Italian side Udinese.
