Russia’s 16-year-old figure skating prodigy Adelina Sotnikova is to take another leap forward in difficulty in the upcoming season by adding a triple Lutz-triple toeloop combination to her program, she told R-Sport on Monday.

Sotnikova burst onto the scene last season with wins at the prestigious Golden Spin and the Russian championships in her debut year, raising hopes she could fight for gold when Russia hosts its first Winter Olympics in 2014.

“When I finally learn the combination of the triple Lutz and toeloop, then it’ll be more difficult,” she said, adding that her programs were at the same difficulty level at last year while she perfects the technique.

“In the free program I have a completely different style, it’s a sort of blues with a dash of burlesque,” she said.

“It’s more joy, emotions, working for the crowd. In the course of my steps, it’s as if I’m talking about my own little world.”

“But in the short program I have a Spanish theme. There I’m completely different, arrogant I guess.”

Sotnikova said she had opted against familiarizing herself with the Olympic venue in Sochi by skating there in a test event in October due to a schedule clash with the Nebelhorn Trophy, but hoped to reach the Grand Prix final at the same venue in December.
