Boxing champion Vitali Klitschko has proved he has brains as well as brawn after playing to a draw with former world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik, a Ukrainian news website reported Thursday.
The match took place in Switzerland, where the WBC heavyweight champion is preparing for his September 8 defence against German contender Manuel Charr at Moscow's Olimpiisky arena.
"Kramnik, before putting me in check, offered a draw and I agreed," Klitschko was quoted as saying by the segodnya.ua website.
Klitschko, 41, is the first boxing champion with a Ph.D. degree, which earned him his nickname Dr. Ironfist.
Kramnik, 37, held the Classical World Chess Championship title from 2000 to 2006, and the undisputed World Chess Championship from 2006 to 2007.
