Ex-Chelsea player Dan Petrescu is the new coach of Dynamo Moscow, the team’s vice-president Vasily Titov told R-Sport on Friday.

Petrescu quit his previous job at Russia’s FC Kuban last week, telling R-Sport that he was in search of “a new challenge”.

Titov said that the Romanian’s appointment had been confirmed by the Dynamo board Friday, but did not specify any details of the contract.

Dynamo's last permanent coach Sergei Silkin resigned August 6 in the aftermath of a 4-0 derby thrashing by Spartak Moscow.

Petrescu will lead the time for the first time when Dynamo Moscow travel to VfB Stuttgart for a Europa League playoff match Wednesday.

Caretaker coach Dmitry Khokhlov will be in charge for Dynamo's Russian Premier League match against Terek Grozny on Sunday because Petrescu is serving a touchline ban.

"Petrescu will prepare the team for the Europa League match against Stuttgart," Titov said.

"I remind you that Petrescu has a ban from the disciplinary committee and can't appear in the role of a coach before September 2."

Since retiring from football in 2003, Petrescu has also coached Romanian teams Dinamo Bucharest and Unirea Urziceni, as well as Poland's Wisla Krakow.

As a player, he made more than 150 appearances for Chelsea and won 95 caps for Romania.
