New FC Kuban coach Yuri Krasnozhan said Thursday his new job is an "interesting project" and praised his predecessor Dan Petrescu's reign.

Krasnozhan was announced as Kuban coach Thursday, six days after ex-Chelsea player Dan Petrescu quit to seek "a new challenge" amid speculation that he will take the vacant Dynamo Moscow post.

"I won't mention any names, but we are currently working to hire a player for the attack. I'm talking about this transfer window," Krasnozhan was quoted saying on the Kuban Twitter account.

Petrescu's departure does not mean Kuban has abandoned its target of qualifying for European competition this season.

Kuban has already signed a striker this summer, with Daniel Niculae joining last month as a replacement for Ivory Coast forward Lacina Traore, who earlier joined Anzhi.

Krasnozhan, 49, whose previous jobs include spells at Spartak Nalchik and Lokomotiv Moscow, has worked with the Russia B team since last year and coached the team in their 4-0 win over the Belgian under-19 side Wednesday.

His last club job was at big-spending Anzhi, where he spent less than two months without playing a competitive game before being replaced by Guus Hiddink in February.

Krasnozhan's first game in charge of Kuban will be in the Russian Premier League against Alania Vladikavkaz on Monday.

Kuban are eighth in the league after four games.
