CSKA Moscow midfielder Pavel Mamaev is unhappy at being dropped from the first team, but neither he nor anyone else at the club will say why he is not in the squad, CSKA defender Sergei Ignashevich said Wednesday.

Mamaev played 33 times in the league for CSKA last season, but has made just one appearance in four games this season, as a 63rd-minute substitute in a 3-1 away defeat to Amkar Perm.

“He’s obviously worrying about not making it into the squad,” Ignashevich said on his website.

“I’ve got my own view on this topic, but I won’t publicly talk about it. Moreover, neither the player himself, nor the coach is commenting on this situation.”

Mamaev’s role at CSKA has shrunk since the team signed Swedish midfielder Pontus Wernbloom in January, and he has started only three of 14 league games since then.
