Russian basketball team UNICS Kazan claimed Friday that star shooting guard Henry Domercant has signed for another team, in violation of his contract.

Domercant, a two-time European champion with Bosnia-Herzegovina, joined UNICS from fellow Russian team Spartak St. Petersburg on a two-year deal last summer.

His contract has a clause allowing him to leave if UNICS fails to qualify for Euroleague play.

The team fell short, finishing fifth in the Russian championship, but Domercant failed to notify the team of his desire to leave in time, said UNICS vice-president Stanislav Eremin.

Moreover, the club received a wildcard to participate in the Euroleague next season.

"This whole time, Henry's agents have been claiming that he will stay with UNICS, that he likes the team," Eremin said.

"According to our information, Domercant signed a contract with another club," which is requesting permission for the player's transfer, Eremin said.

"In our view, there was a violation of contract obligations on the part of basketball player."

The club is lobbying support from the Russian Basketball Federation in the Domercant case, Eremin added.

"A lot will depend on the Russian Basketball Federation. It must guard the interests of the Russian clubs, and guard them in such a way that everybody would know that in Russia laws are being obeyed, rules are being obeyed."

Domercant's career has also taken in Dynamo Moscow, Efes Pilsen and Olympiacos Piraeus.

Attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.
