Del Potro Takes Bronze in Men’s Singles

Juan Martin del Potro won the first medal of the London Olympics for Argentina as he beat Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in their Olympic bronze medal match on Sunday.

Juan Martin del Potro won the first medal of the London Olympics for Argentina as he beat Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in their Olympic bronze medal match on Sunday.

Both players had six break points throughout the match, but second seed Djokovic missed all of his as he lost 7-5, 6-4.

"I had my chances, I didn't use them and he deserved to win," Djokovic said.

The Olympic bronze is the second success for the 23 year old del Potro at major tournaments after his victory at the U.S. Open in 2009.

"Today I feel really happy, I have been crying for my happiness. I did a fantastic match. This is for my country," del Potro said.

Britain’s Andy Murray and Roger Federer of Switzerland are playing the gold medal match.
