Defending world and Olympic champion the United States glided to gold in the women's eight rowing on Thursday.

The U.S., undefeated in the last four years, won by three quarters of a length in six minutes, 10.59 seconds from Canada, which took the silver a second and a half back.

The bronze went to the Netherlands, which won silver in Beijing four years ago and crossed the line in 6:13.12.
