Ex-Scotland striker Garry O’Connor has finally been cleared to make his debut for his new club, Russia’s FC Tomsk, almost three weeks after signing for them, the Siberian team said Wednesday.

Second-tier side Tomsk had been under an effective transfer ban that prevented them registering any new signings with the league, but this has now been lifted, the club said.

“The ban on registering new players has been lifted from Tom, and three players were registered yesterday,” the club said in a website statement.

“Finally, the Scottish striker Garry O’Connor has been registered.”

The other two players concerned are defender Sergei Bendz, on loan from Premier League side FC Kuban, and midfielder Andrei Gorbanets.

The league had hit Tomsk with the ban after the club failed to pay money owed to current and former players.

The club did confirm whether the money had been paid or how the case had been resolved.

Tomsk faced bankruptcy earlier this year before being rescued by Russian state oil companies Rosneft and Gazprom Neft, which each took a 25 percent stake in the club.

O’Connor could now make his debut for Tomsk at home to Baltika Kaliningrad on Monday.
