The national Olympic committee of Georgia is complaining to London Games organizers that they have identified South Ossetia and an Abkhazian town as being part of Russia.

The national Olympic committee of Georgia is complaining to London Games organizers that they have identified South Ossetia and an Abkhazian town as being part of Russia.

The international community considers the two regions to be part of Georgia, while Russia and a handful of other countries claim them to be independent countries.

The mistakes were visible Wednesday on the London 2012 website in the athlete profiles of two male wrestlers on the Russian team.

Besik Kudukhov, who competes in the 60kg freestyle event, is listed as coming from "YUZHNAYA OSETIA," with the suffix (RUS).

The word "yuzhnaya" is a transliteration of the Russian word for "south."

Denis Tsargush, a 74kg wrestler, carries the "GUDAUTA (RUS)" origin, referring to the town on the Black Sea coast in Abkhazia.

"In connection with this, the Georgian NOC has made a stern protest and has already sent a letter to the London 2012 organizing committee demanding the correction of these mistakes and to indicate in the biographical information of the two athletes the birth place of Georgia," the committee said in a statement posted to its Facebook page.

Russia and Georgia fought a brief war over the regions in August 2008.
